Mirka CEROS Compact Electric Random Orbital Sander

Mirka CEROS Compact Electric Random Orbital Sander
The included durable Systainer® case houses the CEROS, DC Transformer, and cords (plus whatever else you can fit inside it!) CEROS is the size of a typical palm sander, yet is powered by electricity! An integrated 12-foot cord connects the CEROS to a 22 volt DC Transformer. The CEROS is available in 5" and 6" models. The 6" models are available in 3/32", 3/16", and 5/16" stroke diameters.A DC Transformer powers the CEROS. It is capable of accepting AC voltages of 90 to 220 volts, and converts the power to 22DC volts. The CEROS delivers worldwide compatibility when used with the appropriate input cord (available separately). The transformer plugs into a typical wall socket via an included extension cord.CEROS comes complete with an integrated 12-foot cord, but can be extended using an additional cord (12' and 33' cords are available). The CEROS is vacuum-ready, and when used with proper sanding discs, can keep the work area incredibly clean and tidy. Minimal dust and debris extends the life of sanding discs, and delivers much better performance. All sorts of technological components ensure CEROS' quality and performance.Compared to other woodworking random orbital sanders, CEROS delivers more performance in a much smaller and quieter package.

Revolutionary technology.

The Mirka CEROS delivers everything you'd want from a machine.  It's that good!

The CEROS weighs in at about two pounds, making it easy to control and comfortable to use, for extended periods of time.

The CEROS uses an external power transformer to supply electricity to its brushless 400 watt motor. The transformer can accept 90-240AC volts, converting it to 22DC volts. The CEROS tool and transformer are ETL Approved to North American Safety Standards.

The CEROS is remarkably quiet, regardless the speed setting.  At 68dB(A), you won't truly appreciate how muted it is until you try it.  For comparison, a sander rated at 78dB(A) is twice as loud.  You'd have to run not two, but almost four CEROS machines to equal same volume as one machine rated at 78dB(A)!

The CEROS features a digital dual-mode speed control pad, allowing its speed to be throttled like an air-powered sander, or adjusted in steps, similar to an electric sander.

The CEROS uses backing plates featuring industry-standard 5/16"-24 threads.  This seemingly small detail is a BIG DEAL, and allows the CEROS to be used with all sorts of sanding discs, interface pads, buffing pads, and backing plates.

The CEROS comes with a 3-year warranty.  In the unlikely event that your Mirka CEROS sander should require service, turnaround time is incredibly quick (usually 7 days or less, door-to-door).  A quick call to Mirka's toll-free service number will get things rolling... Mirka even pays for Priority Shipping to and from the Service Center!

The CEROS is available in three stroke diameters (UPDATE: As of 12-31-2012, Mirka has not yet imported the 3/32" version of the machine into the USA).  The stroke generated by the machine refers to the circular pattern the backing plate creates as it circumnavigates the driveshaft.

A machine featuring a small stroke confines its sanding to an area smaller than that of a large stroke machine.  All other things being equal, a machine featuring a large stroke will deliver more random rotation of the backing plate, which may increase cutting power but may also create longer scratches or gouges if the sanding disc or buffing pad loads with abraded residue.  In general:

Use a 3/32" diameter stroke machine:
• For fine-grade sanding, or sanding of items that do not allow the entire disc to remain in contact with the sanding surface
• On delicate items that cannot handle vigorous movement of the backing plate
• In confined areas, or on parts that will not physically allow the use of a machine with a
medium or large stroke (in reference to backing plate movement)
• When high-speed random rotation of the backing plate is not desirable

Use a 3/16" diameter stroke machine:
• For most sanding duties
• On items or parts that can handle somewhat vigorous movement of the backing plate
• On areas that will physically allow the use a machine with a medium stroke
(in reference to backing plate movement)
• If you plan on using the machine as a polisher (outfitted with buffing pads)
• If you desire more random rotation of the backing plate than a 3/32" machine can deliver

Use a 5/16" diameter stroke machine:
• For most sanding duties, and specifically for coarse or aggressive sanding
• On items or parts that can handle vigorous movement of the backing plate
• On areas that will physically allow the use a machine with a large stroke
(in reference to backing plate movement)
• If you plan on using the machine as a polisher (outfitted with buffing pads)
• If you desire maximum random rotation of the backing plate
• If all the above applies, and you understand the benefits of using a large stroke machine
