Leave it to Meguiar's to design a backing plate that perfectly fits their buffing pads. This unique system approach allows Meguiar's to squeeze every bit of capability from their hardware.

This backing plate will increase buffing pad performance and durability, optimizing polishing performance in the process. What's the big deal, you ask? A lot!

For starters, the outer edge of the plate has been designed to help minimize pad hazing. Plate thickness is varied, which allows the buffing pad to better contour to complex surfaces.

The specialized low profile Velcro® attachment material secures the pad to the plate, gently yet powerfully locking it in place until the job is done.  Sweating the small details pays off, as a light pull of the pad easily releases it. The attachment material has been purposely eliminated along the outer edge of the face. This seemingly small detail increases flexibility of the pad, but more importantly eliminates "edge-digging", which often occurs when the hook material "cuts" into the back of the buffing pad.

Finally, the center of the face has been cut from the plate, eliminating edge digging at the center of the pad, dropping temperature buildup in the process. It's an extra step that is seemingly insignificant, but longevity of the buffing pad is increased.  Thanks Meguiar's!
