The Rupes LD30 30mm Air-Powered Orbital Denibber tops out at 7,500 RPM, which can stress its tiny backing plate. The 9P06.061 Hook-Face 30mm Backing Plate is a direct repacement for the factory installed unit.  Use with hook and loop (aka Velcro®) sanding rosettes & discs.
 
Technique, overall use, and the type of work being accomplished can also impact the life of the plate. Should you accidentally drop the machine (and the plate is impacted in the fall), its metal stud can bend, causing the plate to wobble something fierce. Eventually, in one way or another... the backing plate will need to be replaced.

It's a good idea to keep at least one spare on hand if you own an LD30, as they are not easy to locate in a pinch.
